I will continue for him, his memory, and for me, naturally. I have no idea where this road goes now or perhaps before, I was merely happy to be on any road as long as it was with him.
A couple of years ago, I approached the idea of my 60th birthday as a milestone thing and a cause for maybe, a long weekend together somewhere. Today’s reality flipped that concept.
In fact, the calendar has presented a few areas of concern. The solitude of being alone, at the house can be good sometimes and less so on other occasions. Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and New Year’s Eve to name a few areas of concern. It looks like my early answer to this would be to change the background.
I visited my friends Kip and Bob in New Orleans over the weekend. Naturally, grief does not get affected by the time zone switch. We shared meals and caught up. I attended a touring performance of The Lion King at the wonderful Saenger Theatre.
The show was pretty good, as far as touring shows go. I teared up at the song Endless Night because of course I did. It is a second act number, that is not from the Disney cartoon but was unique for the stage version. It’s about grief. I played it again on my iPhone, the morning after the show and I sat there and let the tears come. When it was done I washed my face and headed out for coffee and beignets.
It will be cold in London in November (Thanksgiving) but it will good to see Mike and a few shows. December (Hanukkah) in Vegas will be warm, when I visit Joel, and for New Year’s Eve I might stay home and sleep early.
